Treatment
Treatment is simple -usually 4 antibiotic tablets taken in one dose, and that’s it!
You will be asked to call the office so that we can give you a choice of sites that will be able to give you free treatment.
We treat everything in confidence.
If you can, bring your sexual partner(s) with you so that they can be treated at the same time.
This will help prevent you from being infected again.
The antibiotics will clear the infection provided you follow the instructions you are given, and you
take the tablets. You (and your partner, if you have one) will be advised not to have (any) sex for 7
days after taking the antibiotics so that they have enough time to work.
Treatment is not a vaccine, and it will not stop you catching Chlamydia again. Take another
test if you (or your partner) have unprotected sex with someone else.

Wearing a condom significantly reduces the risk of getting chlamydia and other sexually transmitted infections.
A positive result does not give any indication of how long you may have been infected for.
If you have chlamydia you may have another infection. It is important that you arrange a check up.
You can contact your GP or the Genito-Urinary Medicine Clinic (GUM).

CONTACTING PARTNERS
If you have a positive result, it is very important to let your partner(s) or ex partner(s) know.
They may be infected too and could pass chlamydia on, be at risk of long term health problems and risk
infertility.
We realise that telling your partner or ex partner can sometimes be quite difficult, but please
speak to us here at the office, and we can help you find the best way to let them know.
If you feel unable to speak to them, we can contact them in a confidential way, without mentioning your name.
